Name: Rachel Newton
Title: Social Media Specialist
Years at Volume Nine: 3 months
Why were you chosen for our November employee spotlight?
Well, I’m the newest employee on the team, so I have a #fresh and #new perspective. I’m also the #coolest.
What is the best part of working for V9?
Being part of such a fun and motivated team makes coming to work really enjoyable! Plus, a lot of my coworkers have very cute dogs who visit the office.
What excites you about working in Digital Marketing?
Working in social media gives you so many chances to be creative, whether it’s writing content, making ads, or designing graphics, and you get to see how successful your work is so fast! I can put out a post for a client and that same day I can see if people are responding to it. There are always opportunities to come up with new and exciting strategies.
What excites you about the future of Digital Marketing?
It’s always changing! New features and new tools are coming out every day and the opportunities to innovate are endless.
Who is your favorite influencer to follow on social media?
Doug the Pug – I desperately want to meet him! It’s pretty amazing that his owner made such a successful brand out of her pug. I mean this pug goes to awards shows, meets celebrities, and has his own merch! (I’d recommend his yearly calendars.)
If a sitcom was made about life at V9, who would play you, and why?
I did a pretty extensive Twitter poll to figure out the answer for this and I came up with a tie between Kirsten Dunst and Marcell the Shell with shoes on. I’ll leave it up to you to decide what that means.
What is your most embarrassing moment as a marketing professional?
There have been a few times in the past where I’ve accidentally posted something for a client on my own social media account, and wouldn’t realize it until that one older relative on Facebook would comment something like “What? I don’t understand…. Love Grandma….”
Aside from V9, what has been your favorite job and why?
Definitely, when I was a social media intern at Florida State University (Go Noles!) I was really lucky that my supervisor encouraged us to be creative, so I got to spend my time making memes and just being funny on Twitter, which is every social media person’s dream. Plus, it was pretty cool to be the secret voice behind my University and to see people I knew sharing my posts without knowing I wrote them (take that, popular kids!).
Tell us about your favorite guilty pleasure (or at least one you’re willing to admit).
I’m slightly (majorly) addicted to hostess snack cakes, specifically the cupcakes and zebra cakes. I have no willpower when it comes to dessert.
We want to thank Rachel for taking the time away away from her super-awesome social media duties to fill out our silly questionnaire.
