Name: Megan Duffy
Title: Content Marketing Specialist
Years at Volume Nine: 1.58
Why were you chosen for our July employee spotlight?
Because apparently we’re running out of people to spotlight…
But actually, I’m working to test out some pretty exciting things internally to help Volume Nine continue to grow and innovate for our clients.
What is the best part of working for V9?
I’m pretty sure every other V9er who has been spotlighted has said this, but the people who work at V9 are pretty fantastic. On a professional level, their intelligence and dedication to the job motivate me to do my best work every day. On a personal level, they’re super interesting people who do awesome things outside of work. My coworkers > your coworkers.
What excites you about working in Digital Marketing?
Every day is different. I love coming into work every day and being presented with a new problem or client that requires a unique solution. The industry changes so quickly that I feel like I always have to be on top of my game, so I’m never bored!
What excites you about the future of Digital Marketing?
Seeing how content marketing continues to evolve. It feels like a new way of creating, writing, or promoting content emerges every day, and I’m excited to see what the next decade brings us.
What is your favorite quote?
“To be, in a word, unborable… It is the key to modern life. If you are immune to boredom, there is literally nothing you cannot accomplish” – David Foster Wallace, The Pale King
Who is your favorite influencer to follow on social media?
Very loose interpretation of “influencer,” but The Onion. As a content marketing professional, I’m always impressed by how consistently funny and on-point their writers are. Need proof?
If a sitcom was made about life at V9, who would play you, and why?
Aubrey Plaza. We may or may not be the same person. Aubrey, if you’re reading this, hit me up so I can prove it.
What is your most embarrassing moment as a marketing professional?
Public speaking is not one of my strong suits (interpretation: it terrifies me). I worked in marketing for UBC’s study abroad office in college and had to give a presentation to 200 freshmen about opportunities to study abroad. I kicked off the presentation by forgetting my boss’ name, who I’d worked with for two years at that point, and it only went downhill from there. I still get nightmares about it.
What is your proudest moment as a marketing professional?
Every time I create content that drives visible results for a client. It’s really cool to see how blogging and other forms of content can make a big impact for companies, especially smaller ones that majorly benefit from increased engagement.
Aside from V9, what has been your favorite job and why?
Before I started at V9, I worked for a few small companies remotely managing their digital marketing strategies. Professionally, I learned a ton about how to make different aspects of digital play together nicely. Personally, working 100% remote was awesome because I could travel my little heart out. I worked from the hills of Medellin, on beaches in Oaxaca, and in wine country in Argentina for over two years.
Tell us about your favorite guilty pleasure (or at least one you’re willing to admit).
I attend a relatively ridiculous amount of concerts. It’s a pleasure because I love nothing more than seeing live music from the front row, and I feel guilty about it when I calculate exactly how much I spend on concert tickets in a month. I should really get my direct deposit sent straight to Denver’s venues at this point.
We want to send a big thank you to Megan for taking time out of her busy schedule to answer our employee spotlight questions. It is always amazing to hear how much fun our V9 employees get to experience throughout their day-to-day.
