Volume Nine June Employee Spotlight

Volume Nine June Employee Spotlight

Name: Ashley Peterson

Title: Head of Digital Analytics

Years at Volume Nine: 4

Why were you chosen for our June employee spotlight?

I have been busy speaking at events and leading Google Analytics (GA) trainings across Denver & the mountains. Additionally, it’s my 4 year anniversary with V9.

Tell us more about your accomplishment:

I recently had the honor of speaking at SearchCon up in Breckenridge, CO. This conference is all about digital marketing and learning from leaders in the space. I got to speak about Advanced Google Analytics and share some of my favorite “hidden features” within the tool. One of the things I loved most about this conference was all of the connections and friendships I made. It’s awesome to be able to geek out on data when you’re speaking to people who are just as passionate about digital marketing trends.

What is the best part of working for V9?

I cannot speak more highly of the work-life balance that we have at V9. The ability to work from home or take appointments during the day (and make up hours later) eases the stress of getting everything done. I also love working with other digital marketing nerds. It’s simple, but a big thing!! We all care about driving results and care about clients (and each other) which makes going to work everyday, easy.

What excites you about working in Digital Marketing?

Easy – it’s never boring! I do much better when I’m busy rather than bored, which is why digital marketing (and agency life) is a good fit for me. Especially when it comes to SEO and digital analytics; I have to stay on my toes and be ready to learn about something new at any time.

What excites you about the future of Digital Marketing?

I would echo what I said above. But also the fact that every business now knows that there is a need for digital marketing! It’s not just a thing that makes you better than the competition — it’s now something required to do business. With that also comes the ever-changing landscape which is what makes our jobs fun and interesting. Staying on top of trends, whether it’s in our space or for the client, is super important. Related to SEO, Google does what Google wants so we have to learn to play their game which is always fun. For digital analytics, we have to learn the trends and figure out how to report on them for clients to prove that what we’re doing is working.

What is your favorite quote?

“Falling down is part of life. Getting back up is living.” (unknown)

I love this because it reminds me to not be so hard on myself for making mistakes, and to instead focus on how I handle myself after I make them. Learn from the past and move to the future #sankofa.

Who is your favorite influencer to follow on social media?

Oh boy – I can’t pick just one. That’s like asking a kid to pick their favorite toy.

What is your most embarrassing moment as a marketing professional?

When I was doing a speaking event/training at a client’s offices about Google Analytics, I was walking across the stage and I tripped on cables behind the podium. Thankfully I didn’t knock anything over or get a bloody nose form a face plant, but it was still super embarrassing. And it made me nervous for my next speaking event. Let’s just say I am always hyper-aware of all the cables and cords when I speak.

What is your proudest moment as a marketing professional?

Speaking at SearchCon this past spring! For two reasons. First, the room was filled with industry leaders so getting to stand up and speak to them about something I’m passionate about was empowering. Second, it was my first BIG speaking gig and I was nervous. But I got a lot of high-fives and nods from the audience!

Aside from V9, what has been your favorite job and why?

Bartending at a tequila bar. Aside from sampling and learning about tequila, I loved talking to strangers and hearing their life stories and travels. Some of them inspired trips of my own. And the job helped pay for grad school to get me where I am today which is rewarding.

Tell us about your favorite guilty pleasure (or at least one you’re willing to admit).

The TV show “FRIENDS”. I could watch it on loop and I know it inside and out. I make references to it all the time and my friends just roll their eyes now.
