On Friday, September 20, the whole Volume Nine crew logged off the internet and put on painting clothes to head down to the Family Motel near Colfax and Sheridan. We joined in the efforts of the Volunteers of America to paint the bedrooms, kitchen and laundry of the motel. In addition, we supplied “necessities baskets” to the people residing at the motel.
The Family Motel serves and helps about 4,400 people each year – it is fully operational and has 40 rooms for families and individuals. The motel reserves 30 of its rooms for families and single women who receieve a voucher from the City of Denver for up to a 12 night stay. In addition to this, a homeless man or woman may be referred by a medical provider following a hospital stay, and the length of the stay depends on the recovery time.
The Volume Nine crew split up into small teams to paint the designated rooms – and had a great time doing so! There may or may not have been a little paint fighting (ahem, Lauren) and a little competition to see whose room looked the best (obviously, team light Pink). Though some of us lost our shirts to paint stains and had a few blue streaks in our hair and on our faces, we all gained a good feeling for contributing to the community of Denver.

Way to go, V9ers – helping to #CrankItUp in the community!
